No, no, it’s more like my form of “grace” (and It’s more of an accretion from old training than a deliberate action). When I stop, the dog stops too, without repeating the command. When I change the pace from a normal walk to a jog, then instead of punishing her for one possible wrong step, I add “heel” beforehand, so that the dog gets information that something is going to change. When I slow down, I don’t add “heel” again, because the dog should watch himself, but when I suddenly change the pace from a normal walk to a jog, sometimes I have a chance to correct the dog even though it’s not his fault, but rather my unsignaled change. If I speed up, she will speed up too, but being on a fairly short leash I have the opportunity to correct.
