Loyalty or Lunch? Testing Your Dog’s Protective Instincts

In a world where our dogs are treated like family, a pressing question remains: if an intruder burst into your home while your dog was eating, would they choose you or their dinner? Inside Edition decided to put this social media trend to the test in their fascinating and humorous video:

The Experts and the Experiment

To ensure a realistic and safe test, the production team enlisted the help of professional dog training and aggression experts Michael D'Abruzzo and Nathaniel Bonilla. Together, they staged "home invasions" with a variety of pet owners to see if the distraction of a delicious meal would override a dog's natural protective instincts.

What You’ll See in the Video:

The experiment features three very different dogs, each with a unique reaction to the simulated threat:

  • Eury the German Shepherd: Despite being a large, intimidating breed, Eury finds herself in a hilarious dilemma. She briefly pauses her meal when the intruder enters, but her stomach almost wins the battle before she finally decides to bark the "bad guy" away.
  • Mr. Biz the Maltese Shih Tzu: Proving that size isn't everything, this tiny seven-year-old pup completely ignores his dinner to charge the intruder, showing incredible confidence in defending his owner.
  • Zeus the Great Pyrenees Mix: A true "gentle giant," Zeus is more lover than fighter, but he still manages to step away from his bowl to intervene when he sees his owner being pulled out of the room.
