I think have found a solution that will work for him. I switched the arc collar for the 1900 which has a stronger vibration, and since dogs being close to the truck is almost as strong a trigger as someone either on, are acting like they are on drugs.Using the stronger vibrate I was able to get his attention off a dog coming up to the truck barking at him today, long enough to redirect his focus and let him know to “leave it.”
If I can do that with dogs, and with all the dogs running loose here I have plenty of opportunities, I think I can anchor a “Leave” command to work in the other situation.
Another thing I noticed is telling him gruffly seems to fuel it whereas giving him commands softly with the dog situation had a soothing effect.
