We have done mainly police style trailing with him. We bring him to where the man was last known to be or have him sniff an article with the scent of the man. He then hits the trail hard with a low nose. He will go to the air if needed and does well. Would be easy to do search and rescue style with him.
I havent seen any evidence that Cobra is looking for a real bite on the finds. We have the hidden person give cobra a tug toy in training. One time the trainers noticed Cobra hit a random track deep in the woods, so they followed him for about half mile and he took them to some random guy that was hiding out in some large boulders. The guy was surprised and came out yelling and scared. Cobra was off-leash and started barking at him, so the trainer gave him a “come” command and Cobra came right back.
