    To me this is a one dimensional shortcut to an “out” command.  It absolutely works as you can see, but it does not “fix” resource guarding and can possibly give a family a false sense of security.

    Treating this as an “out” command it is only about avoidance conditioning and the dog will learn it only applies when it can be reinforced with punishment.  Ideally, you want the dog to also WANT to “out” for the handler because of a variable reward and possibility of better activity such as fetch.

    The side effect of training with only punishment is that you create a situation where it “us vs. dog”.  The side effects are many.  Always stive to hit training from three angles:

    But, I would still like to reiterate that Jeff’s heart is in the right place, but what you see is exactly and only what you will get.
