Third practice outside and first double blind. Asia (my wife) prepared all the targets 30 minutes early and hid them under a small amount of mulch so that the targets would not be visible in our backyard. I only asked Asia where she should NOT put the targets (so that they would not be the same places as in the previous 2 sessions). Since I myself didn’t know where the targets were I fired up a cigarette at the beginning (which later prevented me from rewarding and holding my phone at the same time). I tried to follow the dog and let her lead, however, when she lost interest in searching she walked right by my leg, the best solution in such a situation is to stop and let the dog start leading again. When I myself iniciate some direction KJ follows in that direction. The first target instead of “marking” she put in her mouth and spit out in front of me and did not too much want to return to it with her nose, I myself took out the sausage and guided her nose under the source of the smell, in general the first target was a drama, groggy, jumping, maybe stimulating the dog with the finding, to this sausage in my hand which I could not take out of the pouch… The second target found also quite quickly, I would call it a correct reaction because KJ “scratched” it from under the litter, held it between her paws, returned to it with her nose, scratched it – again me with a cigarette and a sausage, but much better than with the 1st target. Finding the third target took us a little longer but also the target was marked with scratching. Since we are running out of hiding places in the backyard (don’t want to get the dog used to searching patterns), we plans to do some more training (2-3) in the backyard but with previously buried targets to then start training in a completely open space.
