With both I still take away the eyes first and focus on searching behavior. This teaches the dogs to use only it’s nose. It also allows you to see what type or search behavior the dog naturally has, begins to teach the difference in thresholds for detections and source as well as how to work to source. I only do this for a few days. From there I pair odor dynamically. Be them a puppy or an adult I can have both pair odor in 30 minutes and searching in the first session. By the 2nd they are searching on their own. I will post videos of 12 and 13 week old puppies pairing odor. Then a video of pairing odor on an older dog. I prefer cars but if not ball driven then tins for about 5 minutes like the puppy and then straight to searching. All of my dogs, puppy or adult are searching by 2nd session. Here are 2 puppies pairing odor in 30 minutes. Both did searching behavior with the food on the ground first.
