There are plenty of ways if you are creative to teach the dog to “watch” where you are also watching, but if you want to teach the dog specifically that this means there is a threat coming from that direction it is good to have agitators.
For instance, you can just have helpers approach and drop treats for her after she notices the direction of your gaze. This would teach your dog to specifically “watch” in that direction, but won’t give the extra meaning of also “watch for a threat”.
