Excellent session! without posted training record, it might be hard for people to evaluate the session unless they have been following the other sessions or Q and A …, but from a FSDT phase 1 perspective, I know you are working on the “fading” portion, which is evident by Vetra and your reactions which will require Vetra to still look at you, so you can get have a better compass as to when she knows there will be no indication from you exactly where the odor is. This is no different to making sure the dog doesn’t need to look at you or your finger when given the down command. I assume you will move to the next step once she is reliable with her indication without checking in on you, besides your next presentation.
Keeping it simple on drills and working out one thing at a time keeps the training clean and easy to troubleshoot at each step, which is why it fits into FSDT and makes it easy to replicate in large group classes. Doing this way, I would have 100 percent my pet owning class doing blind searches in large areas/many rooms etc.. without needing to fix the basic stuff.
FSDT is designed for instruction to others that you will be teaching to do something for the FIRST time, I cannot stress how important this is. It is very very different from training dogs just for yourself or for someone to take over the finished dog.
All instruction should always be designed so that everyone will be reasonably successful if taught in a group class of 10-year-olds. Refer to the ABA lecture in the coursework for clarification.
