Hey, really great instructional video! Another one that’s genuinely well done — not much to critique, and it’s super helpful too!
When working with our own dogs, we often have to make compromises between what we can show and what we should show. In this case, I’m talking about distractions. Most clients won’t be able to keep their dogs in command for very long, so for the first few reps of escape conditioning, I’d suggest just waiting instead of adding any extra distractions right away. (With your own dog, I’m sure you’d just wait and wait… but you know how it is!)
Of course distractions should be added — I’d just recommend including a quick note at the beginning telling clients to wait until the dog breaks the command naturally. That way they can focus on what this lesson is really about: delivering the correction at the right moment.
I also noticed it’s missing the bit about stopping the “pumping” the moment the dog starts to return to the correct position — that the correction ends exactly when the dog initiates the return to the command.
And it might be helpful to mention that not all corrections are the same — a correction back to “place” is different from a correction back to “sit,” and how those should be approached or identified.
Keep it up, Taylor! Awesome to see the forum so active 😄
