About:
I adopted Chester from ARLNH (Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire) on June 4th, 2023. Since then, he's been doing really well. Chester has been housetrained since day one! He started crying that night and my family and I didn't know why until I took him outside and he went (he still does this, and he had around 10 accidents so far). It also took him less than a week to learn how to ring the bell when he has to go out. He's been doing amazing with his basic training at home as well (even though he learned that if he is out of my sight, he can do anything he wants). He graduated his Puppy S.T.A.R class on August 28th, 2023 (so proud) and we started his basic training class an hour after he graduated. Chester is such a smart pup and he's "such a character" as his instructor says. I tell everyone we meet, "If it lives and breathes, he wants to be friends with them".
Chester is 4 months old, and since he's a puppy, there's going to be plenty of ups and downs with training and there's bunch of things I've been struggling with the past 2 months. Starting with crate training, he doesn't like it at all and I think I tried almost every trick. If I leave the room (and he knows when I'm about to) he starts crying and the crying turns into barking. He was doing well for almost 2 weeks, I would tell him "crate", he goes in, I put down his food and tell him "okay", he would start eating and I would leave the room, and 2-5 minutes after he finishes eating, he would start crying. For the past few weeks, I haven't been able to leave the room and now he's refusing to eat in his crate. Nothing has changed. He sleeps on my bed with no problems, it's not what I want or expected, but it works for now. I would prefer if he slept in his crate at night. As I mentioned before, Chester learned that if he is out of my sight, he does whatever he wants. He doesn't listen to my parents when they are telling him anything. Other than that, he's been great! I can't wait to experience what my future is like with him for the next 10+ years.
