A time capsule of difficult information to find about many of the dog breeds before they were corrupted by the pet trade. An amazing read. Published in 1845!
The information on the bulldog is interesting considering it was written shortly after bull baiting became illegal in England and before the bulldog was crossed with the pug and used more as a pet.
You will see references to many different breeds before they actually became "breeds".
I had a quick skim through the book and some of these breeds I hadn’t heard of before… interesting to look back on these breeds and to find out what they were original bred for and how they trained them.
