I think you are fine to do away with the crate. Generally if they are going to get into trouble its within the first few hours. Continue giving her things like kong toys and bones to chew.If you keep increasing the amount of time you leave her out with no incidence then you should be home free.
I don’t think that it will be detrimental to her to do away with it. She already has had good exposure to it, even though its not her place of choice. I don’t see it benefiting her to continue to crate just for purposes of a rare stay at the vet.
