How old is KJ?
At the 19 second mark and 45 second mark she starts pulling, this would have been a good time to relieve pressure and let her feel a win (letting go with one hand…giving a neutral body posture) adding a leash to the tug so she can trot around and you can re engage from a distance may help. I love the girls training together at the end! Sooooo BAD ASS!!!!!!
As far as the Retrieve I would suggest backing up and teaching her the command formally instead of trying to capture it as it seems its not something she wants to do on her own (at least not the way we want her to).
I did a forced retrieve with Storm because I wanted to prove to myself it would be done without all the “traditional” methods that I never liked. This is our second session (we are marking and rewarding her putting her mouth on the bumper) and then a more “finished” session, as well as an instructional @Mike has on the site. I have tons of videos of her learning it. She did not do this behavior naturally and she was a resource guarder (so is Vetra by the way….and she will be learning this too). The final behavior was for her to retrieve the item and get into heel, holding it until I put my hand down for it, she was actually supposed to shove it into my hand. I was able to do this will premack and food rewards (no gun pinching or ear twitching or prying her mouth open etc….just FSDT) it was a big deal to me because of my prior training. Anyway….this is what I would suggest doing KJ if you want her to be more disciplined in her retrieve.
The second video of Storm was posted about 2 months before we lost her and due to her injury there was a major drive balance issue so you will see her running around with the toys and being bouncy etc. I didn’t punish or worry about that because it wouldn’t have been fair to her, but it can be taken through p2 and 3 successfully, like any other command. HOpe this helps..man I got choked up watching my girl.
