In places like this, where only occasionally someone walks by on the path, Koka always tries to perform a given command. I took the leash off because she was doing really well and during the entire walk and training along the way, I didn’t have to correct her on the leash even once. I’m at the stage of writing instructions on avoidance conditioning and both Mike and Ryan (the last person on the forum who shared instructions on phase 2, and I’m looking for inspiration :D) focus on correcting the dog on the second repetition of cue if he doesn’t try to perform a given command. Looking at the structure of the command itself, in my opinion, “did the dog try?” is very important there. I personally see with Koka that she always tries, even turning her head on the first command I interprets as “calm down, I’ll do it, but be calm”. This is a bit of rehabilitation for us after the previous training and hence my gentle approach. At this point I’m (again) pairing gestures with commands to use only gestures, because I see that it’s much easier for her that way. We withdrew the prompts a long time ago and there are videos on the forum in phase 1 😀
