They did pull carts for butchers, conformationally they fit that task….and because they would protect the property and could work for extended periods of time. They were bred to be drovers, to work kind of like flock guardians on the move. When people call them herding dogs they aren’t quite right even though they can move livestock it’s not really their design. They are supposed to be “good” around livestock and not triggered by their movement like other herding dogs. They are a very special breed with a rich history….like many breeds, but Rottweilers are my favorite….as you can tell 😂
I think what you mentioned is important. Dogs are being relinquished and euthanized at ever escalating rates. And higher rates in areas that embrace that cancerous ideology.
