Thank you for feedback! 🙂
The reaction to the name is a “warm-up” during the class. I try to make the dog turn towards the owner after hearing his name every time (he doesn’t have to look at the owner’s eyes all the time), because I always teach gesture commands as well (In case the dog loses hearing, we only change the name to the signal. Also we do not have to yell when we left the dog at 100 meters (at sit for example) and want to change the command). In the advanced group, there are classes in which I forbid the use of verbal commands, for example, for 15-20 minutes and we only practice with gestures, so the dog has to look in the direction of the owner to see the gesture. I also want the dog to know at the sound of his name that something is going to happen, something I’m going to want to tell him, and it’s always going to be something cool, so after the warm-up we go back to Name –> Command –> Lure or not to make the dog do the command–> current reward schedule –> Name. For learning only responding to the name a little warm up: Name –> praise —> reward can be very cool, escpecially when you reward by giving attention and petting the dog.
That just my opinion and I post it get critics 🙂
