I love how technical this is! I saw the timing of the reward and not the bigger picture!

Yes!!! When we do avoidance lessons we don’t reward with something motivational (usually free time) until after a complete set or rep, for the free or for a break from work….so that we can be sure the dog is truly holding to avoid punishment, we do reintroduce rewards quickly for generalization in new environments. I need to be more thoughtful and clear in my words…..giving separate thoughts and feedback for the initial avoidance conditioning session vs. beginning to generalize that out for higher levels of accountability. @Mike does this sound right or is a variable reward during generalization something I should rethink?

This is so helpful for me to tune up my thinking when creating plans but also when watching clients. I try to focus on one thing at a time and this convo totally helps me refocus my focus because I didn’t even think of that here…only the timing!!! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

I love this forum because I know I’ll never stop learning and growing! I never want to get stagnant! Thank you Taylor for posting this and Mike for always showing how we can improve in the details!!
