Thanks for the info! Regarding bite training, I’ve watched the bite-building video from the protection section a few times.>However, my main goal is to get the dog to retrieve, and that’s been a challenge from the start.

During play, when she has a strong grip on the toy, she tends to go downward rather than pull backward 😄That said, we’ve practiced a lot just by moving backwards to improve the bite, bite depth, and to encourage re-biting, but we’re still working on it.

In this session, I was trying to encourage her to take control of the game—at least for a moment that’s why I was doing some “crazy” movements 😀

It’s definitely easier for her to get a deeper grip on the smaller tug.

As for Koka… she’s the loudest dog I know, and she always has to have the last word 😄 She’s 5 years old now.. When she was a puppy (and I was a bit dumb), I used to play “resource guarding” games with her – I’d get on all fours, place a toy underneath me, and encourage her to try and steal it. We’d play like that for hours on the floor. Now I see that she does something similar—but always in a playful way. She’ll even pick up a random stick, toss it toward someone’s feet, and try to invite them into a game of “I’m guarding this now—come play with me!”. Koka tends to enjoy rough play — her favorite game is basically MMA. She has an incredibly wide range of social behaviors—staring, growling, air snapping, gentle tooth touches, but this never go to actual bites during play or any “resource guarding game”.
