3 training with scent work, yesterday KJ was with me in group lessons and we were doing obedience training, so in order not to tire her out yesterday we did not do scent work.
We tried to get KJ to mark the container by lying down/sitting/scratching every time she pointed to the correct container, but sometimes if I didn’t praise and reward her when she was at the correct one she would go on or not mark it by sitting/lying/scratching, so I still praised her and gave her a treat if her nose was at the correct scent to build confidence and so she would know exactly what to look for. Nonetheless, many times she lay down by the right container, I guess lying down by the container comes out most naturally to her and we will probably use lying down as a marking. A couple of times my mistake, when I praised the dog and didn’t give a treat she didn’t quite know what she was supposed to do, she kept looking or was slightly confused, nevertheless she went back to looking and to the correct container – in these cases she also pointed to other containers as correctly if she got the praise alone without a reward for pointing to the correct container.
