I just read this and it reminded me of my issues with Eddie in the beginning. I have heard him growl at the kids on numerous occassions. It wouldnt be from them teasing Eddie but from some of their movements around him or when they shoved him to move out of the way. I have the kids give Eddie commands, and then treats, have the kids do short training lessons, puppy pushups, sit and down commands etc. Most of all to this day they are not allowed to interact with him unsupervised, no hugs or try to wake him up to play while hes sleeping, no cuddling with him while hes curled. In the beginning Eddie wouldnt even play with my kids, now he cant wait to. My children are 4 and 7.

Mike I ordered the leerburg should be in this week. I measured him the way site recommended. So it should work. Anyhow I would love to come back the saturday after I get the muzzel. To answer your question the vet really did nt know what it could be from. She said it is common in dobes. But I have not used the muzzle since and it has gotten better. Must have been the reason, and also after he eats, which I now clean him afterwards.
    Talk to you soon.

sorry so late with reply been a “ruff” month. Anyhow the vet says to just keep it clean and dry and it should go away on its own.(happy about that because I dont want to fill him up on meds) So I have been using stridex, and witch hazel (thanks Teresa D)
and all has been well. Still there a little bit of acne but not as bad. I just keep him clean after meals and dry his chin after he slobbers up his water. Mike I want to get that leerburg but should I try it before I buy(you said someone has in class), or just get it. Eddie is itching to come back to class and cause a scene. I have been home traing him and he does really well. I ve been puting on movies with dogs for the distraction, like “marley and me” but he goes ballistic about to attack the tv. But the training is good he really does so well with no other dogs around. I have to kick this habit of his.
    I certaintely miss the class,

Yea I know that the spiteful thing is not real. It just seems that way sometimes. I have tried leaving him in the crate when I go outside and he will never go in his crate, but he just barks like crazy. (which he does not do when I am at work I have spokken to neighbors about it) So I also tried maybe if he can see me and have ability to roam a little bit so I pu him on the deck, which has a gate, while I mow the lawn. He completely freaks out running the length of deck and back, ramming the gate with his feet, barking like crazy.

thanks Mike I figured as much. It was a harmless walk as I didnt expect to see the other dog. I dont walk him around the neighborhood on his prong. When I saw the other dog I walked away. Now this afternoon we went out in the front for some playtime. The neighbor came out later to walk his dog (the beagle) and Eddie didnt notice I kept on playin with him in the yard(on leash of course) Eddie noticed her gave a bark, I said Eddie no, sprayed the ground with spray and he went back to playing about in our yard. He didnt care that the dog was there, which she was on the edge of my front lawn near the road and her owner and some other neighbors were just talking. Eddie was great, didnt even care that she was there. So this afternoon was great.
Thanks for the reply and of course I would never want to set him up for failure as I feel that him and I are making alot of progress. I try to keep him out of those situations as much as possible. Sometimes the situations just arise at the same time as Eddies walks or playtime.

Mike all is well. I have not toucjed Eddie AT ALL with my hand during the training since I left you. In the beginning of our session at home he is squirmy but he mellows out after a bit. He is heeling very well though.

Steve yes I am in that phase of training with the pinch collar. I have been training him with the sits and downs using correction . He is very responsive but when in down position and I drop the lead walk around him to make sure he stays in down position. I then walk to his left side pick up the lead and he gets nervous, I say “edde sit” and he will jump into a sit but reposition in front if me. I then free him up for treat.

    hey Mike
Eddie still has issues with me standing beside him and giving the sit and down commands, He always wants to run in front of me when I give the command.
