I watched about halfway through to the second dog. I agree with Andy about the backtie because of the unnecessary safety risk. Nothing was stopping that dog from breaking that trainer’s nose with the way she was positioned. If she is going to lay on the floor with poor leash planning she might as well have the dog back tied.
I also agree with everything Allie said and she explained herself well so I don’t need to repeat it.
Third, the absolute lack of a conditioned punisher (and other communication) while using avoidance level punishment was too much for me to bother watching any further.
The rottie was already very stressed out just being with the trainer because of avoidance level punishment for certain things that were likely mistakes that could have been fixed with communication, then the second dog was getting stimmed over and over after a “no” during what should be a teaching phase. The body language in the dogs says it all.
That being said, I am sure the trainer is accomplishing some goals and the owners will get improvement and overall quality of life likely better than if they did not see the trainer. I worry about the maintenance without any plan for honest mistakes, the concept of grace, and when the dogs realize that there is no e-collar on them.
With FSDT there is purpose to each phase which helps with quality control during the process and long term results. I don’t think anyone that understands FSDT and practices it claims it to be superior in every way for things like speed, but what it claims to do is not represented in the video.
I agree with the heart of what she was doing but a few tweaks could really improve the experience for the dog during the training and greatly improve the experience going forward.BTW, here is fear fear-biter blueprint, that most closely relates to this scenario: https://dogtraining.world/knowledge-base/fear-biter-blueprint/
